Route Setters

Your gym and USA Climbing rely on you to support competitions. The most effective way you can show support for trans athletes is to tell your gym you will not set routes or boulders for competitions under USA Climbing’s new transgender athlete participation policy.

Send a letter to USA Climbing:

To [your managing staff],

As much as I love route setting at [gym name], and appreciate the opportunity to have my work featured at USA Climbing competitions, I am disappointed and disheartened to hear the news of USA Climbing’s new Transgender Athlete Participation policy and the many ways it impacts and excludes transgender athletes.

I am also disappointed at USA Climbing’s implementation and announcement of this new policy which effects so many in our community.

For this reason I will no longer provide my skills as a route setter for USA Climbing events hosted in our gym until this policy is paused and rewritten with trans, intersex, and nonbinary climbers.

Sincerely,
[your name]
